Scott D. Gilbert
Scott D. Gilbert is the founder and Managing Director of Reneo Consulting LLC. Scott brings to Reneo Consulting more than 35 years of experience using fresh perspectives and innovative strategies to help clients solve a broad array of intractable and potentially catastrophic problems. His accomplishments include a range of unique solutions involving such controversial issues as asbestos, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, environmental contamination, natural disasters and other mass torts, as well as major commercial disputes, professional liability, and political and policy issues in both the public and private sectors. Most recently, Scott worked with both the United States and Cuban governments to negotiate Alan Gross’ release from a Cuban prison and facilitate the first major change in United States policy toward Cuba in more than 50 years. Scott has been described by high-ranking State Department officials as “Perhaps the best ‘civilian’ expert on the Cuban government.” He is an internationally recognized innovator in the field of strategic alternative dispute resolution (ADR), where he has represented parties and also served as a mediator and arbitrator. At Reneo Consulting, Scott focuses on strategic analysis, crisis management, legal strategy and litigation management, legislative and lobbying services, and government-related consulting. Scott’s clients have included Fortune 500 corporations; small and medium-sized businesses, non-profit organizations; associations; government agencies; government officials and other individuals. Scott has been quoted in print and network media, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, Fortune, the National Law Journal, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC. Scott also serves on the board of directors of the American Security Project, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to educating the American public and the world about the changing nature of national security in the 21st century. He is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of International Trade.
Kami Quinn is a principal of Reneo Consulting LLC. She has extensive experience in navigating a variety of multi-party disputes relative to mass tort liability, financial fraud, property damage and business interruption, and many more complex issues. She often provides strategic advice to companies facing bankruptcy or their creditors. Kami provides a streamlined approach to resolving her clients’ problems, emphasizing an early evaluation and quantification of litigation risk that allows for her to provide the best possible solution to the client. She has a knack for knowing what resources, technological and human, are best used in any given situation, resulting in lower-cost resolution for her clients.
In addition to her work in insurance recovery, Kami has an active pro bono practice providing both direct legal services to clients living in poverty and critical strategic counseling to philanthropic and charitable organizations. Kami also has a long-standing relationship with the Legal Aid of D.C., currently serving as a member of its Board of Directors.
Kami received her B.A. from Drake University and her J.D. from University of Chicago Law School. She is admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia and Virginia.
Craig J. Litherland
Craig J. Litherland is a founding director of Reneo Consulting LLC. Craig has more than 30 years of experience developing groundbreaking concepts and strategies for his clients to successfully navigate complex claims resolution proceedings and bankruptcy reorganizations. Craig’s innovative ideas have enabled his clients to resolve claims quickly, to match claim costs with available resources to satisfy such claims, to manage future liability risks, and, in many cases, to continue to operate businesses successfully despite apparently crushing historic liabilities. He has represented corporations, committees, claimant groups, and other parties in connection with various types of reorganization cases. At Reneo, Craig focuses on strategic consulting, insurance consulting, and legal strategy and litigation management. Craig received his B.A. from Rice University and his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Texas, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, the U. S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, and the Eastern District of Michigan.
Emily P. Grim
Emily Grim has helped clients across a variety of sectors develop creative solutions for their most complex problems. At Reneo Consulting, Emily focuses on strategic analysis, legal strategy and litigation management, legislative and lobbying services, government-related consulting, and PR and marketing strategy. Emily also represents corporate and individual clients in federal and state courts on a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters as an associate at Gilbert LLP, Reneo Consulting’s parent firm.

Emily received a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and a B.A. from Hamilton College. She is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. In addition to her work, Emily is active in social justice causes. She is an Associate Trustee of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs and a firm leader for the Legal Aid Society for the District of Columbia’s Generous Associates Campaign. Emily was named a “Rising Star” in Washington, D.C. by Super Lawyers in 2015.
Michael P. Hatley
Michael Hatley works with companies of all sizes to solve their most intractable problems and create new, revenue-producing opportunities. Some of the tools Michael uses include strategic consulting, structuring deals, market research and analysis, obtaining U.S. and foreign government licenses, drafting business proposals, managing PR and marketing campaigns, coalition building, and pursuing litigation. Michael also represents corporate and individual clients in federal and state courts on a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters as an associate at Gilbert LLP, Reneo Consulting’s parent firm. Prior to joining Reneo Consulting and Gilbert, Michael helped startups grow their business through Internet-based marketing campaigns. Michael received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Saint Louis University before becoming a Fulbright Scholar to Freiburg, Germany. He received an M.A. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he focused on international law, economics, and negotiation. Michael received his J.D. from The George Washington University and is admitted to practice law in New York and the District of Columbia.
Ellen Katkin is the Marketing Director for Reneo Consulting LLC. Ellen works with Reneo Consulting and its parent company, Gilbert LLP, to develop and implement programs for strategic marketing, brand management, business development and public relations. Ellen brings more than 30 years of marketing experience to Reneo Consulting. Ellen established the first marketing departments at several law firms, and has worked with companies in a broad range of industries including manufacturing, media, entertainment and professional services.
Ellen is an active member of the Legal Marketing Association and the Law Practice Management Section of the American Bar Association. Ellen speaks about business development at legal marketing conferences, and has published articles in several marketing publications, including the Journal of Legal Marketing. She received her B.A. from Douglass College at Rutgers University and her M.B.A. from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.
